Sonoran Desert based artist, Wendy Klein, has been a lifelong painter and sculptor with a distinct and colorful aesthetic. Growing up in a suburb outside of New York City she was always surrounded by inspiration and art. Her family encouraged her to dive into creativity at a very early age and with many trips into Manhattan to visit her Great Uncle's gallery, she fell in love with the city and was accepted into the School of Visual Arts to receive her BFA. Wendy graduated with Highest Honors and received the Rhodes Family Award in 2001 and went on to work professionally as a Visual Effects Artist on all types of entertainment media ranging from feature films, animated shorts and games, to interactive art exhibits, television shows, and award winning ad campaigns. While working in New York City and Los Angeles, she continued to pursue her passion for traditional art, eventually opening up an Art Gallery with her husband, Jarrett DeMartino, a tattoo artist and traditional painter. Together they hosted shows and exhibited work in Los Angeles for many years until relocating to Scottsdale, Arizona in 2020. Currently, both Wendy and her husband volunteer in the community Art League hanging quarterly group shows featuring a vast array of work from local artists as well as their own works. Wendy's current work is heavily influenced by the desert critters in her surroundings using acrylic paint as her main medium, although she still enjoys creating soft sculpture fantasy creatures rigged and poseable like stop motion puppets you can see here on the website! |
